Vancouver police said a man was hospitalized late Sunday night after being stabbed multiple times in the neck in the Downtown Eastside. The Vancouver Police Department said the stabbing occurred at around 11:40 p.m. near Main and East Hastings streets. In a statement Monday, Const. Darren Wong urged anyone with information or video on the stabbing to come forward. “People in the Downtown Eastside are often reluctant to come forward as witnesses,” said Wong. “Video footage can help identify suspects and protect victims when witnesses are too afraid to speak up.” In an email to CTV News, Wong said the attack was not random in nature, and the victim and suspect were known to each other. Vancouver police said the stabbing suspect remains at large and have described him as a white man believed to be between the ages of 30 and 40 years old, approximately 6’ tall with a stocky build and bald head, and wearing an orange shirt with tan pants. The victim’s injuries have been deemed non-life-threatening, police added. The VPD said another assault, this one unprovoked, happened on Friday just after 2 p.m. when a female tourist was pushed into traffic from behind by a stranger in the city’s Chinatown neighbourhood, near Carrall and East Pender streets. Police said the tourist wasn’t injured or hospitalized, and the suspect left the area before police arrived. The VPD described the suspect as an Indigenous woman believed to be between the ages of 40 and 50, approximately 5’8” tall, with a medium build and lip piercings. She was wearing a black toque, black jacket, black pants, and black combat boots at the time. The VPD said both incidents remain under investigation and asked witnesses or anyone with dash-cam video from either area around the time of the assaults to call the department’s non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.
