Opening night for this year’s Windsor International Film Festival is next Thursday, Oct. 29 and it’s a sellout. It’s the 22nd year of the signature performing arts event in Windsor. The popular 11-day celebration of cinema, by Canadian filmmakers, and from around the world includes a program of 232 feature films from 55 countries across more than 300 screenings. The festival showcases the downtown core’s screening venues, all within a three-block walking distance from each other. The rich tapestry of genres, story-telling perspectives and creative artistry promises something for every movie-goer. Dr. Vincent Georgie is the executive director of WIFF. Georgie is grateful for the ongoing support of the festival and excited for attendees for this year’s instalment. “It’s been an incredible presale already,” said Georgie. “The opening night is sold out. The attendance we’re expecting is huge this year, which is, you know, very exciting. And the demand for films, we had a local film sell out a couple of weeks ago to move it to a bigger theater, and just seeing this demand from our tourists, but also our regional community, it’s really exciting. We’re in for a very big festival coming up, that’s for sure.” The WIFF box office address is 109 University Avenue West -- adjacent to The Capitol Theatre. Movie tickets can also be purchased online.
