A 19-year-old man from Dominion City has died and four other people were taken to hospital following a collision between a vehicle and a semi-truck in the Rural Municipality of De Salaberry, RCMP say.

St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP say they responded to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Provincial Road 23 and Provincial Road 200 on Saturday at 8 p.m. Local firefighters and paramedics also went to the scene, along with a STARS air ambulance.

According to police, five people were in the vehicle as it travelled north on Provincial Road 200 and collided with an eastbound semi-truck on Provincial Road 23.

Police say the semi-truck jack-knifed in the eastbound lane and tipped over into the ditch. The other vehicle came to rest in the south ditch of Provincial Road 23, facing west.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three passengers — a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, both from Dominion City, and a 16-year-old girl from the Rural Municipality of Franklin — were also taken to hospital with multiple injuries.

A fourth passenger, a 19-year-old man from Dominion City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 27-year-old man from Winnipeg who was driving the semi-truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP and Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate.
