Even as the Winnipeg Jets return home for a trio of games, much of the focus was still on the team’s miraculous comeback against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. Down 4-0 with under three minutes to play, the Jets rattled off four goals in two minutes and six seconds to tie the game and then capped everything off in overtime, Dylan Samberg snipping a shot to secure the 5-4 victory and end a nine-game losing streak. “I think the third one was when it really kind of started to feel real; it’s pretty crazy. Once you kind of build that momentum, you can kind of feel it coming and get the fourth, and then I don’t think any of us had any doubt in our minds about winning that game in overtime,” said Morgan Barron, who scored the second goal in the comeback. Captain Adam Lowry had a unique perspective for the comeback as he was in the dressing room following a fight with under five minutes to play. He told media Thursday that he was undressed and his equipment was packed up when pucks finally started to find the back of the net for the Jets. “The talk is, do you start getting dressed again? I’m like, ‘I don’t want to jinx it. We’ve been in a good spot with me sitting on the table.’ There were some thoughts about ‘Do I go back out there?’” Lowry laughed. “Then (Kyle Connor) obviously what he does from that spot makes it 4-3, and now the race is on. So I actually didn’t see the tying goal until after the game…I got dressed in about a minute and a half.” Head Coach Scott Arniel said the second they knew overtime was happening, he was making sure the training staff let Lowry know that he was needed back on the bench. “I threw an f-bomb down the other end to my trainer, who has a headset, who goes into that room to get his you-know-what back out here ASAP,” Arniel said with a grin. Lowry figured he would be on the bench for moral support and not back into the fray of things, let alone getting the first assist on the game-winning goal. “It was great, just the elation, the excitement of (Tyrel Bauer) scoring his first goal, getting the Gordie Howe (hat trick), doing all those things. Seeing the benches’ reaction after the overtime winner and coming into the room, the relief, the excitement. And coming in today, just feeling like you got some of that confidence back, some of that spunk, some of that spark,” said Lowry. Barron said it was a weight lifted off the entire team as the losing streak had been a tough situation to deal with. “It’s been an emotional couple weeks there for us. It’s not easy coming to the rink every day after losing those games in a stretch. I think everybody feels kind of the pressure to find a way out of it. It’s not easy. So to do it the way we did, I think that, like I said, that says a lot about our group and the potential we kind of have.” The Jets are hoping to build off that crazy win Thursday as the Vancouver Canucks come to Canada Life Centre. Vancouver is the league’s worst team, with only three wins. They too had a similar losing streak like the Jets, as they lost 10 straight between Oct. 4 and 25. Despite their struggles, the Jets know not to take the Canucks lightly and they need to be ready to go at puck drop. “No game in this league is a given,” said Lowry. “You can’t be satisfied with one win. Like, we know this spot we put ourselves in and you’re not going to go out and win and get 10 points for one win tonight. But it’s about stacking them now and just focusing on the Canucks.” The Jets recalled Brayden Yager from the Manitoba Moose Thursday and he will slot into the lineup. As well, Brad Lambert cleared waivers and will be joining the Moose. Game time Thursday night is at 7 p.m.
