A Winnipeg business owner has become the latest candidate to seek the mayor’s office in the upcoming election. Gagandeep Bawa is now the 14th candidate registered for the Winnipeg mayoral race. He said he is running because he feels like nothing is being done in the city. “Everything is still the same,” he said. “Like mayors come, names change, candidates change, years change, dates change on the calendar, but there is no result happening in Winnipeg.” Bawa owns a Subway restaurant in the Exchange District and said he and other business owners are concerned about crime in the city. “Winnipeg is already getting a designation of having the highest crime in Canada,” he said. “I want to work on that. I don’t want to sit in the office.” Keeping streets clean and making it easier for businesses to open are also priorities if Bawa is elected mayor. Bawa joins a race that includes incumbent Scott Gillingham, Chris Clacio, Mike Vogiatzakis, Umar Hayat, Mazher Alam, Don Woodstock, Joshua Pagdato, Johnny Calderon, Noah Redden, Zachary Uminski, Brad Gross, Kevin Klein and Tracey Drexler. Election day is Oct. 28.
