Travellers wanting to fly from Waterloo Region to Calgary will have to wait until the spring to book with WestJet. The airline is no longer offering direct trips during the winter months. A message on the company’s booking page now reads: “Service to Kitchener/Waterloo ends on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, and resumes on Sunday, April 25, 2027.” WestJet had been offering daily flights out of the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF). CTV News reached out to the company on Monday to find out why they decided to suspend winter service to YKF. “WestJet regularly reviews its network and schedule to ensure we are matching capacity with guest demand and operating as efficiently as possible to meet the needs of Canadians,” they wrote in an email. “Based on demand, the service between Calgary and Waterloo has been adjusted to primarily serve travel during the summer season.” WestJet has been flying out of the Region of Waterloo International Airport since 2007.
