One person is in custody after a man was spotted with a gun in the Westwood neighbourhood on Thursday. Winnipeg police confirmed Thursday that officers were called to the first 100 block of Byrd Avenue at 9:30 a.m. for a report of a man who appeared to be walking to a vehicle with an apparent firearm. Police identified a residence involved in the situation, and access to neighbouring streets has been restricted to assist dispatched units, which includes the tactical team and drone unit. A man has been taken into custody and a firearm was recovered. Winnipeg police say the incident is ongoing and there is no direct threat to public safety at this time.
