A Barrie woman accused of helping a man escape the scene of a downtown shooting earlier this year has now pleaded guilty to lesser charges and been released from jail. Olivia Thompson, 23, left the Barrie courthouse Monday afternoon after the Crown dropped a charge of accessory after-the-fact to attempted murder stemming from the April 5 shooting that sent a Barrie man to hospital in serious condition. Thompson, who had been behind bars for about six months, pleaded guilty to assault and stealing a cell phone over the Easter weekend when the bars let out along Dunlop Street East and a crowd of people were captured on surveillance video getting into an argument. A gunshot rang out and a bullet hit 30-year-old Jordan Sproats, who was airlifted to Sunnybrook in Toronto where his spleen, left kidney, and gallbladder, along with part of his pancreas and intestines, were removed during surgery. Sproats pulled through after several weeks in hospital and continues to recover. Loved ones told CTV News the bullet passed through his chest, grazing his spine and lungs. A bullet hole could be seen in the window of a bar across the street. Thompson was arrested days later and charged with robbery and helping the alleged shooter flee the scene. She was represented by defence lawyer Nabeel Sheiban. Police believe 20-year-old Daesean Sherk-White pulled out a gun and shot Sproats during the argument before fleeing. Sherk-White remains behind bars, charged with attempted murder and several firearm counts. Sherk-White, his 32-year-old girlfriend Amanda Haus, and Thompson were arrested when police tracked them down at a home in Midland, where investigators confirmed a loaded handgun was found. Several others were charged in the weeks that followed, accused of assault and robbery. Haus was granted bail in June, under strict house arrest conditions with a GPS ankle monitor. As part of her sentence, Thompson was placed on probation for two years. Her co-accused return to court later this month. The allegations against them have not been tested in court.
