Chapman’s Ice Cream working to replace American ingredients amid trade war

Chapman's ice cream says it's on track to replace seventy per cent of American ingredients by the middle of next year.

A popular Canadian ice cream company is working to ensure as little American ingredients are going into their products as possible, amid the escalating U.S. Canada trade war.

Chapman’s Ice Cream, based out of Markdale, says in response to the ongoing trade war, it is working on re-sourcing its ingredients to Canadian companies, or at least, non-U.S. companies.

It also promises to do so without asking consumers to pay more for their products between now and March 2028.

By mid-2027, the ice cream company says more than 70 per cent of the American ingredients will be replaced.

“We stand with the Canadian government, and all provinces, in our outright rejection of these unjustified tariffs,” says CEO Ashley Chapman in a social media post.
