South Simcoe Police say they are on the lookout for a couple after a resident’s jewellery went missing. According to police, a man and woman were in a vehicle, with the man driving and the woman in the back seat, when they approached a resident in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Police allege the suspects asked the resident for direction and once they got it, the female suspect offered the resident a gift as a token of appreciation for their help. While the victim was distracted, police say the suspects removed the victim’s jewellery without their knowledge. They did this without getting out of the vehicle, police say, then drove off. It was not until after they left the area that the victim noticed their jewellery had been stolen. As the investigation continues, police encourage residents to minimize the opportunity for distraction theft by maintaining personal space and avoiding unnecessary physical contact with strangers. Police also encourage residents to “trust your instincts” and not be afraid to end any suspicious interaction and move to a safe location.
