Provincial police are investigating after a dog bite sent a child to hospital in New Tecumseth on Monday. OPP say at 4:20 p.m. they learned of the incident; a child was bitten on the hand by a leashed dog on public property. Police say the child then went to their school, where they were met by EMS who took them to the hospital. OPP say the child suffered a puncture wound to their hand as a result of pulling their hand away when the dog bit down. Despite this, police say the child’s injuries were minor and they were dispatched from hospital on the same day after some stitches. According to OPP, the health unit and the town of New Tecumseth were notified about the dog bite. Police say the investigation is ongoing and the owner of the dog has been cooperating with authorities. CTV News has reached out to OPP for more details. Check back later for updates.
