Southern Manitoba residents could experience some temporary power outages over the next few days as Manitoba Hydro assists in the shipment of storage tanks. In a news release, the Crown corporation announced planned outages for communities along Provincial Trunk Highways (PTH) 23 and 59. This includes a temporary outage on Tuesday on PTH 1, 21 and 23 between Kirkella and the PTH 34 junction, and an outage on Wednesday on PTH 23 from PTH 34 to Morris. Thursday’s planned outages will be in the area of PTH 23 and PTH 59 from Morris to the U.S. border. Hydro explained the outages are due to the shipment of eight storage tanks from Saskatchewan to the Minnesota border. The tanks are about eight metres tall, which is about the size of a two-storey building. To help with the move, Hydro is ensuring safe clearance past power lines, while a private company deals with moving and exporting the tanks. Each outage will last about an hour and a half. Hydro cannot provide specific outage times as they will depend on the progress of the shipment on the route.
