Calgary police are launching a new months-long public safety operation in the East Village and along Stephen Avenue, areas the service says have ongoing concerns related to crime and social disorder. Safer Calgary – Operation Restore begins Thursday and will involve a sustained, high-visibility police presence in specific areas. Police say officers are being assigned to those communities over the long term in an effort to build familiarity with residents, businesses and outreach partners. “Consistency builds trust, and that is what Operation Restore is about,” Chief Katie McLellan said. The new initiative follows a separate Safer Calgary operation taking place Wednesday. Safer Calgary – Operation Order is a focused downtown operation involving Calgary police, Calgary Community Standards, Transit Public Safety, the Alberta Sheriffs, Alberta Health Services rapid access paramedics and Recovery Alberta clinicians. “Operation Order remains an important part of our public safety strategy, allowing us to increase visibility in several different areas, intervene where necessary and connect people to supports,” McLellan said. Operation Restore will also involve Calgary Community Standards, Transit Public Safety, the Alberta Sheriffs, the CPKC Police Service and outreach organizations. Safer Calgary is a police initiative aimed at improving public safety in priority areas through patrols, focused enforcement, outreach and referrals to support services. Police say previous Operation Order deployments have resulted in hundreds of calls attended, warrants executed, community engagements and referrals to social service agencies. In May 2026, police say Operation Order resulted in 421 calls attended, 10 people charged, 33 charges laid, 327 summonses issued, 308 CPS warrants executed, 497 proactive community engagements and 215 social agency referrals.
