Calgarians will get to experience “a mix of the Grand Ole Opry and the Bluebird Café in Nashville” this week at the National Music Centre, according to singer/songwriter Clayton Bellamy. Bellamy co-founded Heartstrings and Honky Tonks, a songwriters’ session that features performers swapping stories and sharing their songs. This year, it’s a matinee performance on Saturday, April 25. Bellamy has no shortage of gigs, in addition to Heartstrings and Honky Tonks. He’s celebrating 20 years with The Road Hammers, including a tour of Australia later this year. Bellamy also has shows planned in the U.S. and Canada with his The Legendary Life of Tom Petty, honouring the work of one of his favourite songwriters. “He was someone who could really paint an amazing story in three minutes … take a character that didn’t exist and build it into a three-minute universe,” Bellamy said.
