A dedicated group of Edmontonians will take to the streets Saturday to clean up part of the city. Life Changers Eco Foundation founder Ronnie Gwebawaya says it’s the third-annual iteration of the Mega Trash Bash, and a special edition given its proximity to Earth Day on Wednesday. Typically, the group schedules a cleanup for May due to weather restrictions. “It’s the environment. It’s our responsibility. It’s everyone’s responsibility to take care of the environment,” he told CTV Your Morning Edmonton. In its first year, more than 200 volunteers came to pick up trash near Griesbach Parade. The next year saw a cleanup of Chinatown. This year, the group is looking for as many volunteers as possible for a concerted effort around James Kidney Park. Life Changers has been operating in Edmonton since 2023 with a goal of making the city a greener, cleaner place to live. Volunteers are able to register for the Mega Trash Bash on its Eventbrite page. The cleanup runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Registration gives us numbers so we can prepare our volunteers, but it doesn’t mean that if (you) haven’t registered, (you) can’t attend the event,” Gwebawaya said. “We encourage all people of goodwill, environmental enthusiasts to come together and we’ll clean up our city.”
