A new grant is offering to help thousands of Albertans pay for satellite internet. On Tuesday, the Alberta government said the Alberta Satellite Rebate Program will give a one-time payment of $1,000 to rural and remote households that can’t access broadband internet. The rebate covers up to $1,000 for satellite internet hardware, installation and applicable taxes; purchases must be made from an authorized dealer between Aug. 11, 2026 and March 31, 2027, to be eligible. “Satellite technology has changed what’s possible for rural connectivity, and this rebate makes sure cost isn’t what stands between rural Alberta households and getting online,” said Nate Glubish, minister of technology and innovation. “Reliable internet access is essential for rural Albertans, and many households still face barriers to connectivity that existing federal and provincial initiatives have not been able to solve,” said Rural Municipalities of Alberta president Kara Westerlund. “The Alberta Satellite Rebate Program provides another pathway for those residents to get connected.” Households can check if they are eligible and find more details on the Government of Alberta’s website, and they will have until March 31, 2027, to apply for the rebate.
