After nearly six years, Clinton’s ER is returning to 24-hour care. The Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance says the Clinton Public Hospital’s emergency room will return to 24-hour care, starting on June 1 at 8 a.m. The community’s emergency room had its hours reduced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2019. Hospital leadership said it was due to a lack of qualified nurses. In January 2025, Clinton’s ER hours were slightly expanded to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. “Expanding Clinton Public Hospital’s emergency department service to 24/7 care reflects our commitment and extensive efforts to provide safe, reliable, and accessible care for the community,” says Andrew Williams, Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance president and CEO. “With strengthened staffing and system supports, we are resuming full operating hours as was our commitment to Clinton and its surrounding communities,” he continued. Town halls and public meetings have been held in Clinton since the overnight ER closure, trying to find solutions to the problem. Many in Clinton say they are pleasantly surprised by the re-opening of the ER because the longer it lasted, the more they feared it may never return to its previous schedule.
