Owen Sound police were at an apartment complex Sunday in the northwest end of the city for an unrelated matter when they saw a deer in the parking lot. Police say the deer became startled and leapt through a ground-floor window. The unit was occupied by two women, one of whom had been asleep in the bedroom when the deer entered. Police had both women leave the apartment and opened the patio door to give the deer an escape route. However, the deer leapt back through the same window it crashed through, and was free. One resident did sustain minor injuries, but her bedroom suffered significant damage. “The deer appeared uninjured – just a little embarrassed,” police said in a statement. The Owen Sound Police Service reminds residents to remain calm and keep a safe distance if encountering wildlife within residential areas.
