Hyprov is hailed as a comedy show like no other. It stars Colin Mochrie from ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ fame, renowned hypnotist Asad Mecci and members from the audience. “It’s an unholy alliance between hypnosis and improv”, said Mochrie. “Asad Mecci asks for 20 volunteers from the audience to come on stage and he hypnotizes them and then selects four or five to take part in improv sketches with me and the fun begins.” Both Mochrie and Mecci say the real stars of the show are audience members. “About 20 per cent of the populations are really good hypnotic subjects but if they are not suitable, I ask them to leave the stage,” said Mecci. “Those who are left take part in a wild laugh filled night.” Mochrie added, “Every time I throw something out there they immediately react like true improvisers.” He says audience members love to see people they came to the show with get up on stage. “I think it’s amazing to see people do what they can do when they get out of their own way,” he said. Hyprov is the first in a series of new comedy performances at the Grand Theatre in downtown London. It’s in town for one night only on Nov. 8. Also this season, The Soaps, a live improv soap opera has a longer run from Jan. 21 until Jan. 30 followed by Does This Taste Funny on for one night only on March 7. Tickets for all of the performances are on sale now at the Grand Theatre.
