Londoners will join the party nationwide Saturday as Canada takes on Morocco at the FIFA World Cup beginning at 1. p.m. While there will be plenty of watch parties, London will host a FIFA-endorsed watch event at Victoria Park featuring everything from a giant outdoor TV screen to a giant soccer ball. The Forest City was selected to host one of 38 stops on the Canada Celebrates the FIFA World Cup 2026 tour. The city is fortunate to have the date coincide with the biggest soccer/football party in Canada. “And we wanted to take advantage of that opportunity and try to play a small role in welcoming this event to Canada and to London,” explained Zanth Jarvis, of Tourism London. While red and white will dominate Saturday, all football fans are invited to don their favourite jersey as two matches are played on the big screen. The event runs from 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. “And it’s really a celebration not just of Canada, Morocco, France or Paraguay,” he said. “It’s anyone and everyone, all those nations that are participating in the World Cup and an opportunity for fans of any country to come out and really support their team.” In between matches, there will be plenty of activities in the park, including musical performances and football-related games for children. “There will be food trucks, a beer garden as well, lots to do,” added Jarvis. Free water refill stations are also in place. Still, if you are looking for alternatives, several bars and restaurants are planning watch parties. There are also family-friendly indoor events, including a large gathering at the BMO Centre for those seeking indoor comfort. “They come in with their kids, all dressed in red, and they’re excited to come and see the game,” said Tom Partalas, an event organizer. But Victoria Park will hold an advantage over all other football events. “This is the only official FIFA event coming to London. If you want to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime official FIFA event, you just have to be here!” concluded Jarvis.
