An investigation is underway after a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was found west of the city’s downtown core early Thursday morning. Neighbours saw police converge on a property at the southwest corner of Blackfriars Street and Wilson Avenue at around 3 a.m. Thursday morning. London police say there were responding to reports of a gunshot. Upon arrival, officers found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics transported the victim to hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening. The building has commercial units and apartments inside. It was home to the Blackfriars Bistro until about one month ago when the restaurant closed. The Major Crime Section is leading the investigation. Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area of Wharncliffe Road North and Blackfriars Street between 2:45 – 3:15 a.m. and who may have information, residential or business surveillance footage, or dash-cam footage, to contact police. “Violent offences involving firearms represent a serious threat to public safety. The London Police Service works closely with our policing partners to disrupt criminal activity through proactive enforcement,” police said in a news release. “We respond promptly to violent incidents and work diligently to ensure those responsible are held to account to ensure the safety and well-being of all who live, work, and visit our city.” Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
