A fertility clinic in London is sharing an update regarding a pause of in vitro fertilization (IVF) services and the work that has been underway for several weeks. OMEGA Fertility Centre previously stated that in January 2026, a small number of IVF cycles yielded results inconsistent with typical laboratory outcomes, prompting the pause. The centre declined an on-camera interview with CTV News, instead providing a statement saying, “Following the independent external review, OMEGA Fertility Centre has moved forward with implementing additional environmental safeguards as part of our careful reopening process. This includes investing in enhancements to the systems that support the laboratory environment, including air handling and related equipment. These upgrades are now in progress, with new equipment on order and being prepared for installation.” The statement went on to say while the external review confirmed that the laboratory operates to a high professional standard, it “did not identify a single definitive cause for the unexpected fertilization outcomes observed in January.” Meanwhile, officials said there continues to be no indication that patients were exposed to any safety risk, and embryos in cryo-storage were not affected. Acknowledging the significant emotional, physical, and financial commitment fertility care requires, the clinic stated it understands the disruption caused by unexpected changes to treatment plans. “Once the new equipment arrives and is installed, we will begin the next phase of validation testing,” said officials. “This testing is designed to confirm that all laboratory conditions are performing exactly as expected.” The clinic said the next update will be shared the week of April 20.
