St. Marys prepares for Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame induction weekend

The Town of St. Marys is preparing for the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame induction weekend. CTV London’s Brent Lale reports.

It was set-up day at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (CBHOF) and Museum.

“I’ve got a dozen volunteers helping me out, and we’re getting ready for the big weekend,” said Scott Crawford, director of Operations at the CBHOF.

Induction weekend begins Thursday night with the Opening Pitch event at Toboggan Brewery in London, Ont.

The official kick-off of celebrations features an event where guests can mingle and get up close with 2026 inductees, special guests, media personalities, and Blue Jays executives.

Some of those in attendance are 2026 Hall of Famers Devon White, Stubby Clapp, Bill Stoneman, Kate Psota, and Paul Runge, plus Fergie Jenkins, Ashley Stephenson, Jeff Francis, Lloyd Moseby, and Rob Thomson.

The event is followed by the annual golf tournament Friday in St. Marys and Induction Day at the museum Saturday.

“We’ve got a great class of six inductees,” said Crawford. “We bring in thousands of people this weekend. It’s quite the weekend for the town and people love St. Marys.”

This is the busiest weekend of the year in Stonetown as tourists from across North America arrive in town for the festivities.

“We’re very proud to be home of the Canadian baseball Hall of Fame and the Museum here in St. Marys,” said Kelly Deeks-Johnson, Tourism and Economic Development manager for St. Marys.

“We also welcome lots of baseball tournaments throughout the year, which is a great celebration for us. This event definitely brings in thousands of people who have maybe have never even visited us before. It’s a great way for our downtown businesses and local restaurants to showcase how great this town is,” said Deeks-Johnson.

The streets are lined with banners approaching the museum, and some businesses have decorated their store front to welcome visitors.

“We’re hoping that the people will come down from the Baseball Hall of Fame and come and visit our downtown,” said Dan Troyer, owner of Troyer Spices on Queen Street. “We hope they come into our stores and see what we have to offer. We’re a very unique town and we have lots of businesses and services that are very unique.”

The businesses are also hosting a scavenger hunt where customers can come in and get stamps and enter a draw.

Back at the CBHOF, the excitement is palpable.

“We’re a national museum,” said Crawford. “This is the only Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in the whole country and it’s in St. Marys. That’s pretty special and the town’s pretty proud of it.”

• 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. – Inductee press conference inside Museum (386 Church St. S.) (media only)
• 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Museum open to public for tours
• 1:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. – Induction Ceremony for Devon White, Bill Stoneman, Stubby Clapp, Kate Psota, Paul Runge and Jim Baba and the Jack Graney award presentation for Hazel Mae at the Hall of Fame (386 Church St. S.).
