Summer like temperatures have scorched mid-western Ontario, when will the rain come?

CTV Meteorologist Gary Archibald dishes the latest forecast details ahead of a significant rainfall event.

With a substantial streak of hot, humid, and above average temperatures, much of southwestern Ontario has been baked, with temperatures feeling more like summer - that’s according to CTV Meteorologist Gary Archibald, “with much of the warmth concentrated in the lower Great Lakes, we are a warm spot in the country.”

Those sky high temperatures have led to a dip in air quality, and dry conditions at the ground level, with Environment Canada issuing air quality warnings in Sarnia, Petrolia and western Lambton County, as well as Goderich, Bluewater, and southern Huron County.

So, when are we set for some rain?

“The breakdown begins... I’d say eight, nine p.m. tonight,” predicted Archibald. “That’s when London, towards Kitchener Waterloo gets into significant shower activity, as well as maybe even some thunderstorm activity.”

London and area is expected to get a moderate amount of rain, somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 to 15 millimeters of rain.

Rain is expected to persist overnight, “it all really gets going late tonight, into early tomorrow morning,” said Archibald. “We’ll see some storminess, and then some sunshine as we march through Saturday into Sunday, Monday, and then rainy through the midweek towards the end of next week.”

Friday night: Becoming cloudy in the evening with 30 per cent chance of showers changing to 70 per cent chance of showers near midnight. Risk of a thunderstorm overnight. Wind southwest 20 km/h, gusting to 40 becoming light after midnight. Wind becoming west 20 before morning. Low 19.

Saturday: Mainly cloudy with 70 per cent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm. Wind southwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming northwest 20 gusting to 40 in the afternoon. High 26. Humidex 32. UV index 6 or high.
