One of the largest downtown London, Ont. festivals is ready to invade Victoria Park this weekend. The 32nd Sunfest has become an annual rite of summer for the community. This year, more than 50 performers are ready to hit the various stages. “It’s our largest international lineup ever with over 30 acts coming from all around the world,” said Mercedes Caxaj, the co-artistic director of Sunfest. “We also have more than 20 artists from across Canada, including locals from London.” Along with the musical talent from around the world, there will be more than 225 food and craft vendors set up in the park ready to serve. Besides the music, food, and vendors inside Victoria Park, Sunfest has a huge impact on the city of London bringing in close to $10 million in economic activity. “Sunfest puts London on the map every year and it has for over 30 years now,” said Cory Crossman from Tourism London. “Being part of the UNESCO city network, Sunfest was a big part of that, so we are always excited for the world to come to London every July.” Crossman added, “I think it’s import to note that Sunfest has a big impact on the community with the music industry, hospitality industry, and with people going out and spending money.” Sunfest kicks off this Thursday night and lasts until Sunday night. Caxaj says it is truly a social project, “It’s breaking down barriers through the power of music and it brings everyone together for a celebration.”
