‘Torrential downpours’ possible this afternoon

CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has your full weather forecast.

Thursday starts sunny, but clouds will increase this afternoon, and there is a risk of some severe weather.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the region. Wind gusts this afternoon could reach up to 90 km/h with upwards of 60mm of rain in some areas.

“The showers pushing into Midwestern Ontario, including Huron Perth, Grey and Bruce County a bit earlier in the day,” explained CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “However, the further south you go, the greater the probability of thunderstorms. We could see some torrential downpours develop in the afternoon.”

Atchison says not everyone will see the severe weather, but residents should be prepared for rain.

Even though it’ll be stormy, the heat sticks around. We have a high of 29 degrees, but it’ll feel like the upper 30s.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Atchison said, “Temperatures will dip a bit heading into the weekend, but we’re into some summertime warmth and the extended forecast will feature some hot weather.”
