An attempted robbery was prevented by the Anishinabek Police Service just after 8 a.m. Friday after a report of a suspicious vehicle on First Nation territory. Police said it happened near an OVR railway bed near Margaret Drive and Christine Lane on Nipissing First Nation, police said in a news release Monday. “Officers located two people loading construction tools into a pickup truck, and a second pickup truck with extensive damage about 20 feet away from the rail track,” police said, “One male walked towards the damaged pickup truck, got into the driver’s seat, put the vehicle into drive and accelerated forward.” The truck travelled on the rail tracks for before hitting a switch plate and rolled over into a ditch according to police. The male driver and female passenger were out of the vehicle and were later charged with several offences, including driving a stolen vehicle reported missing from Quebec. A 50-year-old man from West Nipissing is charged with dangerous operation, driving while under suspension and possession of property obtained by crime in and outside of Canada. A 34-year-old West Nipissing woman was charged with possession of property obtained by crime in and outside of Canada. While the driver was held for a bail hearing, the woman was released on an undertaking.
