Timmins engineering manager Scott Collin said crews are finishing the concrete work before moving on to the final stage of construction. “We’re rounding the corner to completion,” said Collin. “We’re aiming for next week and aiming for things to be wrapped up by the end of the month.” Once paving begins, traffic patterns will change again. Collin said crews will first focus on the two eastbound lanes, with traffic shifted onto the westbound side of the road. That will leave one lane open in each direction. The city is also aware of concerns surrounding negative interactions between members of the public and workers at the construction site. Don’t yell at staff Collin said the contractor is responsible for the site and its workers and is asking drivers and residents to remain respectful while construction continues. “Yelling at somebody earning a paycheck on the job site is not the right thing to do,” he said. While this portion of the project is nearing completion, the Connecting Link work is expected to continue for several more years. Collin said the contractor already has a contract for Segment 10, which will continue east from the current work area near 655 Algonquin Boulevard toward the east entrance at Father Costello Drive. “Connecting Link is ongoing until 2029 and 2030,” said Collin. Drivers are being asked to plan and expect increased congestion when paving gets underway next week.
