Guelph Police are trying to identify a woman who sprayed a noxious substance in the face of a store clerk. A customer called 911 around 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday. They said they entered the unnamed business, near York Road and Victoria Road South, to find an employee in pain. The victim told police a woman had tried to buy alcohol and several other items. “When the clerk refused to sell the alcohol due to the time of day, the woman removed something from her pocket and sprayed the clerk in the face before fleeing with the merchandise,” a media release said. Officers could still smell the noxious substance when they arrived on scene. On Thursday, police released two photos of a woman they want to identify as part of their investigation. She appeared to have dark hair and wore tight black pants, a black hoodie and a jacket. The woman was also walking in the store with bare feet. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Nick Dowe at 519-824-1212, ext. 7602, or by email at ndowe@guelphpolice.ca.
