Emergency responders from the Greater Sudbury Police Service, Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services were called to Municipal Road 80 near the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre in Valley East shortly before 9:55 a.m. on Sept. 5 in response to a collision. “Preliminary investigation indicates that a blue sedan travelling eastbound on MR80 collided with a black SUV that was turning left from the shopping centre parking lot to travel westbound on MR80,” police said in a release Saturday evening. Police said upon arrival, emergency responders located three individuals who had sustained serious injuries. “The driver of the blue sedan, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” local police said. According to authorities, the passenger of the blue sedan, a 20-year-old man, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and “was subsequently pronounced deceased by medical professionals.” Police added that the driver of the black SUV, a 43-year-old woman, was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. “The Greater Sudbury Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, as well as all those affected by this tragic incident,” said Greater Sudbury police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn in the release. Ongoing investigation Police have not released the cause of the crash or indicated if any charges are being considered. “The investigation remains ongoing,” said police. Investigators ask anyone who witnessed the crash or was driving in the area at the time and may have dash camera footage to contact the Greater Sudbury Police Service at 705-675-9171. Online fundraiser launched for parents An online fundraising campaign has been established to support Barb and Tim York, the parents of the two young men. “With incredibly heavy hearts, we are asking for support for our dear friend and their family after the devastating and unexpected loss of their two beloved sons,” wrote Angie Servant of Capreol, who organized the fundraiser. “We are creating this GoFundMe to help ease some of the financial burden during this heartbreaking time. Donations will help with funeral and memorial expenses.” The fundraiser for Ordyn and Drake has a goal of $30,000. As of Monday morning, more than $12,000 had been raised. Among the donations, a local business, Superior Exteriors, has made the current top donation of $1,000. Tattoo shop offers memorial fundraiser Inksane Asylum, a tattoo shop originally from Capreol now located in Massey, has also launched a fundraising effort for the family. “I’m putting together a special tattoo fundraiser for my dearest friends Barb and Tim, who are facing the unimaginable loss of their two sons, Ordyn and Drake,” the shop posted on social media. The fundraiser offers specific tattoos at set prices starting at $100, with special memorial pieces available for close family and friends. The shop is offering flexible September appointments, with weekends preferred, and is also trying to arrange dates in Sudbury for those unable to travel to Massey, but states transportation can be arranged for those who need it. “100% of the funds from this fundraiser will be donated directly to Barb and Tim,” wrote the shop. “Every dollar will be used toward the funeral costs for Ordyn and Drake.” “If you’re able to participate, share this post, or simply help spread the word, it would mean so much,” the post continued. The shop said it will also facilitate direct donations to the family for those who would prefer to give that way.
