A 19-year-old Ottawa driver is facing charges after being caught driving nearly 120 km/h in a school zone in the city’s east end, and police are seeking a second driver who was also seen racing through the area. According to a news release from police, an officer conducting speed enforcement in a 60 km/h zone on Innes Road near Beatrice-Desloges Catholic High School spotted two vehicles racing eastbound at “speeds exceeding 117 km/h,” around noon on Wednesday. Ottawa police say the officer stopped one of the vehicles and charged its driver, a 19-year-old man with a G2 driver’s licence, with stunt driving. While the driver was released at the scene, his licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The second vehicle did not stop, and police are asking for the public’s help identifying the vehicle’s driver. The car, a black “newer-model sports car, possibly a BMW or similar style,” was last seen turning southbound on Provence Avenue. A first-time stunt driving conviction comes with a minimum fine of $2,000 and a minimum one-year licence suspension.
