The Ottawa Police Service says a teacher with the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) has been charged in connection with alleged sexual offences involving a student. The allegations date back to 2021 and 2022, police said. Nancy Lescarbeau, 52, of Ottawa, has been arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, invitation to exposure, forcible confinement, intimidation by threats of violence, assault with a weapon, and assault. No other information was released. The OCSB would not say at which school or schools the teacher worked, but said she had been removed from the classroom upon learning of the charges. “As this is an active police matter, we are limited in what we can share and will not comment on individual employment information beyond what the Ottawa Police have publicly released. However, when the Ottawa Police Service informed the OCSB of the situation, the teacher was immediately removed from the classroom,” a spokesperson said. “The safety and well-being of our students is our priority. We know this news will concern students, families and staff. We are fully cooperating with the Ottawa Police investigation and will provide support to anyone in our school community who needs it.” Ottawa police say investigators are concerned that there may be other student victims.
