The bail hearing has been postponed an extra day for Kelly Knopf, the man charged with the deaths of a woman and her two children, following a fatal collision last week near Foam Lake, SK. 40-year-old Amber Didychuk, along with her two young daughters, Everly and Isla, died on the scene. The collision happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 on Walhalla road — a rural road, just nine kilometers west of Foam Lake. Initializing the collision, the RCMP said that a truck was attempting to pass a semi, when it collided with an SUV. Knopf, 40, was the driver of the truck, has been charged with three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. According to Knopf’s lawyer, he was visiting Saskatchewan from South Carolina for a hunting trip and currently remains in the hospital. Knopf’s bail hearing has been rescheduled for Thursday afternoon at Yorkton Provincial court. “Right now, we’re in court to discuss whether or not he can be released pending trial of these allegations,” said defence lawyer Andrew Hitchcock. “Because he’s not a Canadian citizen, there are special measures that have to be taken both by the Crown and by us, to ensure that he does return to court to face the charges whenever they’re heard. “What we’re doing right now is making sure that we can satisfy the crown that there’s enough in place for them to take the calculated risk of releasing him, understanding that everybody is presumed innocent before the charges are heard.” An online fundraiser for Shaun Didychuk — the spouse of Amber, and father of the two girls — has nearly reached its goal of $40,000.
