The search for a suspect continues days after a 34-year-old man was killed on Red Earth Cree Nation. Saskatchewan RCMP is now releasing the victim’s identity to help further the investigation. Carrot River RCMP were called to a home on the First Nation around 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 15 after receiving a report of an injured man. Officers found Billy Whitecap at the home, where he was pronounced dead by paramedics. Later at that day, RCMP issued a dangerous person alert after determining there was a potential imminent risk to public safety on Red Earth Cree Nation and the surrounding area. The alert was later cancelled. In an update on Friday evening, police said the suspect had not been arrested. He is described as a man about five feet tall who was last seen wearing a Canada Goose vest and sweatpants. The Saskatchewan RCMP homicide investigation unit is working to identify and locate the suspect. RCMP are also asking people living on Red Earth Cree Nation to check security and doorbell camera footage recorded between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 15. Anyone whose camera captured suspicious activity is asked to contact police. RCMP say officers remain in the community and an increased police presence will continue for an undetermined period.
