Drivers in Saskatchewan may want to keep an extra vigilant eye on their speedometers as new speed cameras are coming back across the province. According to SGI, its new “Photo Speed Enforcement” vendor is currently installing the equipment needed to operate the program. “It’s important to remember that speed limits continue to be in effect. Drivers can avoid a costly ticket, and, more importantly, help keep roads safe by obeying posted speed limits every time, and everywhere, they drive,” SGI said in a statement to CTV News. One of the new cameras was installed Wednesday on Circle Drive between College Drive and Attridge Drive in Saskatoon. The new cameras are mounted on poles, replacing the camera boxes that were previously located on the side of the road. No new locations are being added and fines will remain unchanged, according to SGI. The new cameras are being installed under a contract with Global Traffic Group after the previous vendor, Verra Mobility Systems, ended its agreement earlier than expected. SGI did not provide a date for when all of the cameras will be installed and operational, but said they are expected to be in service soon.
