Drivers in Saskatoon can expect several road closures and restrictions over the long weekend and into next week. According to an update from the City of Regina, various priority one roadways will be affected from Friday, Sept. 4 through Tuesday, Sept. 8 as it completes construction work and prepares for the Nutrien Fireworks Festival. “Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around these areas,” the update said. The largest closure will affect the Traffic Bridge between Saskatchewan Crescent and Spadina Crescent for the Nutrien Fireworks Festival. The bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Sunday. Several additional closures are scheduled for Tuesday. A section of 20th Street West between Avenue K South and Avenue H South will be closed for road work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Spadina Crescent East between 21st Street East and 22nd Street East will be closed for water main work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Meanwhile, 12th Street East between Albert Avenue and Clarence Avenue South will be closed for sewer work beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday and continuing until 5 p.m. Wednesday. Saskatoon Transit may be affected by the detours. The City of Saskatoon is also planning a longer-term closure at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 25th Street. The intersection will be fully closed beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, for approximately two and a half weeks as work continues on the 25th Street water main lining project. Closure end times are weather dependent and could change if unforeseen circumstances arise.
