Police in Abbotsford say they impounded two high-end cars after their drivers turned a local road into “their own personal racetrack” Monday night. The department says officers caught a Ford Mustang and Chrysler 300 street racing on Clearbrook Road near McClure Road just after 11 p.m., travelling at 97 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The 22 and-29-year-old drivers were handed tickets for excessive speeding and had their vehicles impounded for seven days, according to police. An image of the involved vehicles shared by police shows the Chrysler has a sticker on its rear window that reads “we rollin,” and the Mustang sports a sideways “N” sign. “Street racing and excessive speeding put everyone at risk and will not be tolerated,” the Abbotsford Police Department wrote in a statement. “In addition to fines and vehicle impoundments, dangerous driving can lead to criminal investigations. In some cases, vehicles may be seized as offence-related property and forfeited permanently.” Earlier Monday, the department said officers stopped a pickup truck travelling 101 km/h on McMillan Road, a 50 km/h zone. The 58-year-old driver also had his vehicle impounded and received an excessive speeding ticket. The APD says more than 260 vehicles have been impounded for excessive speeding so far this year.
