A suspect is facing several charges after an assault, car crash and subsequent knife chase that was partly caught on camera in Surrey, B.C., Wednesday, and has since gone viral on social media. The Surrey Police Service says officers were called to Redwood Park around 4:45 p.m. for reports of an assault. Police say the victim tried to drive away in his Ford pickup truck, but the suspect drove his Jeep Wrangler into it. “The victim then ran from the truck as the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and chased after him. Fortunately, a nearby witness driving a Telsa provided the victim safety until SPS officers arrived,” a statement from the SPS reads. Photographer Robin Nuber captured the incident on video, which shows what appears to be an altercation between three people surrounding a white pickup truck. A man in a green shirt gets on top of the truck holding a knife, before he jumps off the vehicle and begins chasing another man. Nuber says he opened his car door for the man being chased as he reversed away from the would-be attacker. The man hangs on outside the car until the driver stops to let him in. In an Instagram caption, Nuber says the man had his “eye gouged, cuts and a bloody mouth.” He says the man with the knife eventually stopped chasing them, threw the weapon into the bushes and “sat down waiting for the cops to arrive.” The video of the incident—which includes dramatic action movie music from “Sicario”—has garnered more than 870,000 likes on Instagram. Richard Mark James Evoy, 37, now faces one count each of assault with a weapon, assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, criminal harassment, and uttering threats. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
