Mounties say a man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant in Quebec is in custody after he allegedly assaulted someone at a gas station in B.C. earlier this week. In a release issued Friday, Agassiz RCMP said they were called to a gas station on Old Yale Road in Popkum on Tuesday at around 5:45 a.m. with reports of an assault. Police explained that a man allegedly left the store without paying for merchandise, and an altercation ensued when a witness confronted him. “Several bystanders intervened and assisted in restraining the suspect until police arrived and arrested him,” Agassiz RCMP wrote, noting that both the witness and the suspect were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. “During the investigation, officers learned the suspect was also the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant from Quebec.” Police said Olivier Boily is in custody awaiting a bail hearing and has been charged with theft under $5,000, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon. Online court records show Boily is scheduled to appear in court in Abbotsford on Oct. 14. Agassiz RCMP said their investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information related to the incident to contact the detachment at 604-796-2211.
