Heavy rain is in the forecast for parts of Metro Vancouver, coastal B.C. and Vancouver Island on Monday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The weather agency has issued rainfall warnings covering Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Howe Sound, as well as the central coast, Kitimat and western Vancouver Island. In Metro Vancouver, the rain is expected to begin Monday evening and ease Tuesday afternoon, with totals expected between 50 and 70 millimetres. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic,” a notice reads. “Don’t drive through flooded roadways. Allow extra time for travel. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.” On Vancouver Island, the precipitation will start late Monday morning and last until Tuesday morning, and up to 100 millimetres will fall, according to ECCC. Further north, 100 millimetres are precited to fall near the ocean on the central coast and up to 50 millimetres inland. After a wet start to the week, conditions are expected to be warm and sunny for B.C.’s South Coast heading into the weekend.
