The morning commute was slow for Abbotsford drivers Thursday morning after a semi-truck full of animal feed overturned on Highway 1. Abbotsford police say no one was injured in the incident at the Sumas Way interchange, and the driver was able to get out of the truck and walk away from the scene. Highway 1 traffic was reduced to a single lane in both directions so crews could safely remove the vehicle and clean up debris. The westbound onramp at Sumas Way was also closed to keep the Highway 1 westbound slow lane open. Authorities asked drivers to use the McCallum Road onramp instead if travelling west. “Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when travelling through the area and to expect substantial delays during the morning commute,” the Abbotsford Police Department wrote on social media. “Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes where possible and allow extra travel time.” Police say the crash is not believed to be criminal in nature, and early information suggests the truck experienced a mechanical failure. Traffic disruptions are expected to last for several hours.
