Police in northern British Columbia have confirmed that three people were injured in a shooting Friday in the community of Fort St. John. All three victims were transported to hospital and are “currently reported to be in stable condition,” the local RCMP said in a news release Monday. No suspects have been identified, but police executed a search warrant over the weekend and seized “multiple vehicles for forensic examination,” the release said. The shooting occurred inside a home in the 8800 block of 107A Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, marking the third shooting in the community in as many weeks, according to investigators. The Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation, with officers pursuing all available investigative avenues, the detachment said. Sgt. Jaime Moffat called the recent shootings “deeply concerning” for the community and the investigating officers, who are “working tirelessly” to bring the perpetrators to justice. “While these incidents appear to be targeted, that does not diminish the risk to public safety,” Moffat said. “The continued use of firearms in our community is unacceptable, and we are dedicating significant investigative and enforcement resources to identifying those responsible and preventing further violence.” Authorities are asking the public to report suspicious activity in the community, even if it “may appear insignificant.” Anyone with information or images related to the investigation is asked to contact the Fort St. John RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
