A Winnipeg abduction victim has been found south of the border, according to U.S. authorities. The North Dakota Highway Patrol said it had been alerted to a possible abduction in Manitoba Saturday morning. According to the release, a 31-year-old Manitoba man had abducted a 37-year-old man from Winnipeg and had possibly crossed the border. “Law enforcement quickly worked to narrow the search area for the suspect and victim,” North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a statement posted on social media. Using cameras at multiple locations, cell phone location information, messages to family and friends, as well as license plate reader technology, police were able to track down the suspect vehicle in Alexandria, Minnesota. “The victim was able to break free from the suspect and run into a nearby store,” the statement reads, noting the suspect was arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Alexandria Police Department. Police said the investigation remains under investigation. No further details were released, including the names of those involved, and whether or not they have been returned to Canada. “The ND State Patrol thanks our local, state, federal, and Canadian law enforcement partners who worked diligently to locate the victim and apprehend the suspect,” the statement reads. “Coordination across international and state borders occurred seamlessly and without hesitation, bringing this abduction to a safe conclusion.” CTV News has reached out to the North Dakota State Patrol and the Manitoba RCMP for more information.
