Mounties say three break-and-enters have happened in Sooke since Thursday night, and are urging people living nearby to secure their homes and businesses. RCMP say all three incidents occurred at homes and businesses within a few-block section of Sooke Road. Sooke RCMP say officers were called to a business on the 6600 block of Sooke Road at 11 p.m. in the first case, where they found that nothing was stolen but the building’s front door was damaged. Shortly after, at around 2 a.m. on Friday, police say they were called to a home on the 6800 block of Sooke Road, where they found that a PlayStation gaming console and a purse were stolen. Officers responded to the third known incident in the neighbourhood five hours later, finding that a suspect made their way into a home on the 6700 block of Sooke Road and stole items RCMP estimate to be worth $1,500. In a release, Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Greg Wilcocks issued a warning, asking locals to “close and lock all your windows and doors each time you leave your house and before you go to sleep.” “We have seen unfortunate incidences where these suspects have gained entry into a house simply because the door was unlocked. Thieves will often seek a criminal path of least resistance, and if they locate an unsecured house or business, they will target that one over a locked house,” Wilcocks adds.
