A B.C. fisherman has been banned from the hobby for a year after pleading guilty to six charges under the provincial Wildlife Act. Kenneth Ryder was fishing on the Alouette River in Maple Ridge in February 2025 when he was recognized by a member of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service. The officer had previously ticketed him in 2023 for angling without a licence or permit, according to a Thursday social media statement from the BCCOS. “The 2023 ticket had gone unpaid and Ryder’s angling licence was cancelled,” the post reads. He was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, the following six Wildlife Act offences, according to the BCCOS. After his pleas, Ryder was sentenced to a $6,000 fine and a one-year fishing prohibition, the BCCOS said. Online court records indicate he was sentenced Aug. 28 in Port Coquitlam provincial court. The conservation officer service said $5,500 from the fine was directed to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund.
