Swimmers will soon be able to dive back into the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre after a summer closure for major upgrades and maintenance. The facility is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8, with the fall recreation schedule in effect. The months-long project focused on improving the building’s energy efficiency, indoor comfort and reliability, while making the facility more accessible for the community. Among the biggest changes are new heating and ventilation systems, a replacement roof and skylights, and new acoustic panels and suspended baffles throughout the pool area. The acoustic upgrades are designed to reduce the echo that can make indoor pools particularly noisy, creating a quieter environment for swimmers, families and staff. The waterslide has also been refurbished, while crews completed extensive maintenance on the pools, water systems and other building infrastructure. The upgrades are expected to improve air quality and humidity control while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping prevent unexpected service interruptions in the future. “The Aquatic Centre is an important community asset, and these investments will help ensure it continues to serve residents for years to come,” Senior Manager of Recreation Services Trish Morgan said in a statement. Morgan also credited the Comox Valley Sports Centre for remaining open during the closure, helping preserve access to recreation programs while the work was underway. The Comox Valley Regional District said it appreciates residents’ patience during the project and is looking forward to welcoming the community back.
