Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a fatal collision in Windsor on Sunday following an attempted traffic stop by police. The Windsor Police Service said an officer attempted to stop a vehicle shortly after 4 p.m. near the intersection of St. Luke Road and Seminole Street. Police said the vehicle did not stop and crashed into several vehicles a short distance away. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault, has invoked its mandate and is examining the circumstances surrounding the collision. Seminole Street was reported closed between Walker Road and Albert Road, while St. Luke Road is closed between Reginald Street and Metcalfe Street. Windsor police said they will provide no further comment while the SIU investigation is underway.
