Light and scattered showers fell across central and southern Alberta overnight, including in Calgary. Scattered precipitation is expected to persist throughout the day, especially east of the QEII and Highway 2. On Thursday afternoon and evening, there’s a chance of more organized rain and/or isolated thunderstorms in central and eastern Alberta, but areas closer to the foothills will likely be exempt. The daytime high in Calgary will reach at least 20 C Thursday with some cloud and a sustained wind of 10 to 20 km/h that will shift from the west to the northwest at times. On Friday evening, there will be more widespread rain forming along the foothills before it moves west to east across southern Alberta. Calgary could see some of that precipitation, but areas to the south and north are more likely to be impacted. Looking ahead via the long-range forecast, a widespread ridge of high pressure will continue to be the main weather-maker for Calgary, keeping daytime highs around the 20 C mark with lows around 6 C. The normal range this time of year is 15 C for a high and 2 C for a low.
