Calgary police say a man has been charged in two attempted carjackings in the community of Martindale on Thursday. The first was in the 200 block of Martinvalley Crescent N.E. at 12:30 p.m. “It is believed that the suspect approached a man and demanded his vehicle,” police said in a Friday news release. “When the victim refused, the suspect assaulted him using a pair of bolt cutters.” The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His condition has since been upgraded to stable, police said. After his first attempt, it’s alleged the suspect targeted a second victim and tried to steal his vehicle before fleeing. The second victim suffered minor injuries. Officers arrested the suspect a short time later. “Following the arrest, the suspect appeared to be experiencing a medical episode and was transported to hospital for treatment,” police said. The accused, a 21-year-old man, faces 10 charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 15. Anyone with additional information about the attempted car jackings is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
