A snack marketed as “vegan” is being recalled for containing an undeclared animal ingredient. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Smarter Snack brand’s Chili & Lime Flavored Vegan Protein Puffs are being recalled for containing milk, which is not listed on the product label. The recall notice was published on Tuesday. The product also poses a potential risk to those with milk allergies or intolerances. “Do not consume recalled products to which you are allergic or sensitive as they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction,” the CFIA’s recall notice cautions. “Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.” The CFIA said recalled products should not be served, used, sold or distributed. The recall impacts 50 gram bags that were manufactured in April and May of 2026 and sold nationally and online. It is not clear how many units of the product were sold across the country. So far there have been no reported reactions linked to the consumption of the recalled snack. According to the CFIA, the recall was triggered by test results. The CFIA said it is continuing to conduct a food safety investigation, which could lead to the recall of other products.
